Shimron Hetmyer fined 10% of match fee

Rajasthan Royals (RR) cricketer Shimron Hetmyer has incurred a fine equivalent to 10 per cent of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct on Friday evening. The incident occured during the Qualifier 2 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

“Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” said a IPL statement released on Saturday.

What happened in the match

Sunrisers Hyderabad successfully clinched a commanding win over the the Royals by a margin of 36 runs, advancing to the 2024 Indian T20 League final.

The Hyderabad pace attack commenced in an organized manner, effectively containing and eventually eliminating Tom Kohler-Cadmore from one end. Nevertheless, their choice to bring in Bhuvneshwar Kumar for an extra Powerplay over proved to be unsuccessful, resulting in added pressure on their team.

Following Yashasvi Jaiswal’s departure after finding his rhythm, crucial players such as Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag, typically relied upon for their batting prowess, relinquished their wickets. This increased the pressure, and despite a commendable individual performance from Dhruv Jurel, Rajasthan fell short of the mark.

In the initial innings, Hyderabad scored a total of 175 runs for nine wickets, led by Heinrich Klaasen who played a pivotal role in the innings with a 34-ball 50. Noteworthy contributions from Travis Head (34) and Rahul Tripathi (37) were also instrumental in the team’s performance.

In response, RR was only able to achieve a total of 139 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal (42) and Dhruv Jurel (56 not out) stood out as the standout performers for Rajasthan, significantly contributing to their team’s overall score.

Earlier, Rajasthan made a strategic decision to bowl first and experienced some early success. The pace duo of Trent Boult (3/45) and Avesh Khan (3/27) excelled by claiming three wickets each, with Sandeep Sharma (2/25) also making a valuable contribution with two wickets.

In the subsequent chase, Shahbaz Ahmed (3/23) and Abhishek Sharma (2/24) stood out as the key bowlers for SRH, collectively taking five wickets. Pat Cummins (1/30) and T Natarajan (1/13) also played their part by securing a wicket each.
