After Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) thrashed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Wednesday, five-time IPL Champions Mumbai Indians (MI) became the first team in the current season to be officially eliminated from the Playoffs race.
As per reports, certain senior members of the team have raised concerns about Hardik Pandya’s leadership approach, which has led to a gradual decline in the team’s morale throughout the IPL season.
An Indian Express report stated that senior MI members such as Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav convened a meeting post-defeat to discuss the perceived underlying issue. Additionally, individual meetings were conducted to identify potential problems.

For the past decade, Mumbai Indians have been led by Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, Cricket Pundits reckon that the introduction of a new captain into the established hierarchy is has caused some disruption within the team.
An official from Mumbai Indians attributed the team’s challenges this season to the transitional phase they are currently experiencing. “These are regular teething problems for a team that sees leadership change. This happens in sports all the time,” the MI official was quoted as saying in the Indian Express report.
After MI’s defeat against the Delhi Capitals, Pandya expressed his belief that Tilak Varma could have focused more on targeting Axar Patel and attributed the loss to lack of game awareness. This incident was met with disappointment by the team, especially considering Varma’s impressive performance of scoring 63 runs off 32 deliveries during the match and being the top scorer for the team this season.
