Prior to the IPL 2024 Eliminator featuring Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Virat Kohli expressed that he is not particularly focused on statistics and does not extensively review bowler analysis. Instead, he relies on his own instincts and reacts to the ball.
The right-handed batter has been in impressive form this season, with a striking rate of 155.60, marking the highest of his IPL career. He currently leads the orange cap standings with 708 runs.
What Kohli said
“I like to keep things very simple. I am not a big stats guy. I have never really watched the analysis of any bowler, the wrist positions, where the ball is, because the guy might do something different on a particular day. I have to adapt. I have to trust my own eyes, my own instinct and react to the ball and find the best solutions in any situation possible. And when you are thinking on your feet, you will find solutions to the situations that arise,” Kohli said in the video posted by Star Sports.

“I don’t think a computer simulation can tell you the situation you are going to be in. It can’t prepare you for that. So, finding solutions is a very in the moment process. As I said, I have based my cricket on the basics of the game. I keep my game very similar in all three formats of the game and for me it’s just playing the game at a very different tempo,” added he.

The Faf du Plessis-led RCB had managed to secure just a single victory their first eight games, against Punjab Kings. However, after initially struggling at the bottom of the standings in the first half of the tournament, RCB staged an impressive comeback by winning their final six matches to secure a spot in the top four. The RCB ended the league stage on 14 points.
“What RCB have done has been absolutely phenomenal. Nothing short of phenomenal. Firstly, to believe that they can bounce back takes something special. The leading players there, Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and other senior players, must be the ones most encouraging to the other team members. Other team members can quickly get into a situation where they might feel we’ve lost everything,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports Cricket Live.
